a good start…
This chart comes from Tim Ferriss’ book “The 4-Hour Chef” and when I first saw it, my mind was simply blown to have this information so succinctly and clearly presented. I return to this reference time and again for the basic flavors to evoke the type of cuisine I’d like cook. From this jumpstart, you can experiment and play further. For example, I find that Cumin + Oregano will give me more depth to the tastes of Mexico beyond the recommended Lime + Chili.
Beyond this reference, when you taste something at a restaurant that you love, you can ALWAYS ask for the recipe or ingredients. This is a good way to learn and grow your personal repertoire.
