One thing that WNY is known for is our delicious Maple Syrup! Join me (Missy) as your hostess for this Virtual gathering of the Women in Food of WNY. In this Free Class with Emily Kwilos, Farmer at Kwilos Farms in Evans, NY, she’ll teach us everything you could ever want to know about Maple Syrup and how to make your own decadently delicious Maple Cream.

If you’ve never heard of Maple Cream before, you’re in for a treat you’ll never forget! It is a delightfully sweet and smooth way to enjoy maple. You can use maple cream as a butter on toast and bagels, frosting on chilled baked goods (just imagine - maple-frosted brownies!) or as a drizzle over oatmeal and more.

Emily will also teach us about how maple is harvested, the maple-making process, different kinds of maple and the versatility of maple syrup for a range of uses and delights.

Along the way, I’ll be asking her questions and chatting about her food journey, being a woman farmer in WNY and whatever spontaneously comes in our shared storytelling. I’ll also share some bits about Crown HIll Farm and my own passion for food (as well as a Crown Hill Favorite BONUS recipe) and YOU will have a chance to ask questions as you cook and enjoy along with us!

Whether you cook along with us or just sit at the “table” and enjoy the conversation, I’m sure you’ll learn a few new things to add to your own culinary creations! In addition to learning with us during this live, play-along, how-to sweet adventure in the kitchen with Emily, you will get a copy of the recipe to use over & over again and revisit this delicious treat!

About Emily Kwilos:  As a woman farmer, Emily co-farms Kwilos Farms with her husband and daughter.  They are both passionate about providing high quality, locally raised, farm products to their community.  Located in Evans, NY, their family farm has been in operation since 2011. They raise angus- cross beef cattle, create a range of delicious maple products from their own taps, grow hay and straw, and both perennial and cut flowers and source local provisions from wonderful businesses and farms nearby.  Emily finds it so gratifying and motivating to wake up every day to care for livestock and crops that will feed her family and her customers' families!  When she is not working on farm projects, Emily enjoys shooting recurve archery, reading, and landscape designing.

About the Women in Food of WNY series: Being a solo Woman Farmer and Woman Entrepreneur I have always kept my eye out for fellow women in business with whom to connect (and commiserate). As i’ve established myself in the WNY area, I have loved meeting new chefs and farmers alike. However, one thing that I noticed was a serious lack in attention towards women Chefs and Farmers of the region, despite the fact that there are many of us. Here at Crown Hill Farm, we love to host Farm-to-Table dinners featuring local chefs preparing seasonal foods. From there, I saw a vision: A series of dinners highlighting the women chefs of WNY. Now, in 2020 with COVID keeping us all away from social gatherings in person, I had to get creative while hanging on to this vision of featuring women in food in WNY. And so, after many conversations with incredible women, this series was born! This is the first step to what I hope will be a Conference of WNY Women in Food. For now, let’s gather around our respective kitchens to chat, cook and learn together.
