Crown Hill Farm CSA 2025 Shares
What the heck is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA is a mutually beneficial partnership between you and your farm (me), where you subscribe as a member of the Crown Hill Farm Community. Together, we are nourishing your body, supporting our local community economy while also sharing some of the risk (weather or a failed crop) and reward (extra abundance!) of farming.
At the beginning of the season, you support Crown Hill Farm in lump sum upfront for a share of the harvest, which enables me to get the season started purchasing seeds, soil amendments, and supplies. In exchange, when the harvest begins, you receive a regular delivery of the best of the farm’s harvest. This means that you secure your good health by knowing exactly where your food comes from, how it is grown and what has gone into it. In essence, you get to know your farmer personally and be an active part of the farm!
What’s in the CSA Shares?
My shares run bi-weekly and have a variety of options including: Vegetables, chicken eggs & duck eggs. Each week that you get a produce bag, you’ll receive 6-12 freshly harvested items (it changes according to the season). If you have eggs, you’ll get 1 carton per share. In addition I include some add-on options provided by other local food makers whose values and quality match my own. These are foods I choose to eat and use personally — only the best!
How does it work?
My shares run bi-weekly and have a variety of options including: chicken eggs, duck eggs, and produce. In addition I include some add-on options provided by other local food makers whose values and quality match my own. These are foods I choose to eat and use personally — only the best!
chicken Eggs
Our eggs are SOY-FREE from heritage hens mindfully raised on pasture. When you open your egg carton, you’ll see a rainbow array of pastel colored eggs from whites and blues to dark browns and pinks that come from our large variety of heritage breeds. We use herbs and essential oils to maintain health.
This year, we have a Spring Egg share and a Summer/Fall Egg Share option.
The Spring share runs for 14-weeks from March -June and includes 7 deliveries of a 1 dozen eggs each
The Summer/Fall share runs for 22 weeks from June - October/November and includes 11 deliveries of 1 dozen eggs each
Duck Eggs
Our duck eggs are SOY-FREE from heritage ducks mindfully raised on pasture. Duck eggs are simply wonderful to eat in the same ways you’d use regular chicken eggs. Many (not all) people who have chicken egg allergies can often eat duck eggs without having an adverse reaction. Duck Eggs are especially wonderful for baking and cooking things such as homemade pasta, custards, sauces, mayo and anything you’d like added richness. We calculate that 1 duck egg = approx. 1 1/2 chicken eggs in recipes. We use herbs and essential oils to maintain duck health.
This year, we have a Spring Egg share and a Summer/Fall Egg Share option.
The Spring share runs for 14-weeks from March -June and includes 7 deliveries of a 1/2 dozen eggs each
The Summer/Fall share runs for 22 weeks from June - October/November and includes 11 deliveries of 1/2 dozen eggs each
Fruits AND Vegetables
Here at Crown Hill we are committed to nutritional diversity, delicious flavor and fun foods. With that in mind, our produce are all unique heirloom varieties, mindfully grown with no-till/low-till sustainable practices bringing that richness back to your dinner plate. Each week you’ll get a mix of vegetables that are in season at that time; the varieties and quantities changing throughout the season with what is available.
Some of the things you can expect are: lettuce, cucumbers, leeks, potatoes, tomatoes, herbs, radishes, turnips, beans, garlic & scapes, dried herbs, eggplants, peppers, apples, carrots, kale, and more. Along with each delivery, you’ll also get an email with recipes and information about your share.
The Summer/Fall share runs for 22 weeks from June - October/November and includes 11 deliveries of produce.
Breads
This year, we have a new bread option, from Art’s Cafe, Springville as a contributor to our CSA options. Art’s Cafe is an exceptional co-op style organization committed to community, sustainability and the arts.
“What we bake is real bread. Our loaves require three days from build to bake giving wild yeasts (and natural fermentation) the time to develop flavor and digestibility. We use high quality and fresh local ingredients, including Farmer Ground Flours, plus high heat and steam to create a great crust, oven spring and a rich warm flavor – The simple wonders of flour, water and salt.
Each week, you’ll get 1 loaf of bread, alternating between: Springville Sourdough, Toasted Sesame, Sunflower-Flax & 3-Seed
The Spring share runs for 14-weeks from March -June and includes 7 deliveries of 1 loaf each
The Summer/Fall share runs for 22 weeks from June - October/November and includes 11 deliveries of one loaf each
CHEESE Share
I’m happy to welcome back Eden Valley Creamery as a contributor with their USDA Organic, local artisanal cheeses! I have to tell you that some of these dairy cows live across the street from Crown Hill, so this is extra special to include as an option.
Eden Valley raises their certified organic cattle on pasture in WNY all summer long and the dairy is less than a mile from the creamery where the cheese is hand-crafted. The families that run Eden Valley have long been involved in WNY farming and I’m honored to bring them to our CSA. Each week, you’ll get 1/2 lb of cheese, including a mix of curds and aged cheeses.
The Spring share runs for 14-weeks from March -June and includes 7 deliveries of a 1/2 lb cheese each
The Summer/Fall share runs for 22 weeks from June - November and includes 11 deliveries of 1/2 lb cheese each
